One of my personal goals this year is to focus on devoting time to myself, which is why this month I’ve committed to setting aside some time for self-care. We have all faced many challenges this past year which is why it is especially important to dedicate time to activities that make us happy. There are so many things that constitute as self-care, but with Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’ve decided to create a guide for the perfect self-care spa day that can be enjoyed with a partner, friends, or just on your own! No matter how you’ll be celebrating the holiday, I hope you can enjoy some of these self-care suggestions and most importantly, carve out time for YOU.

~Set the Mood~

With any day of self-care, it’s important to set the mood in order to reach ultimate relaxation, and no mood is set without a candle burning and music playing. You can certainly light a candle that you already own, but as of late, I’ve really been enjoying taking on DIY projects. There’s something about making things with your hands that is therapeutic in its own right, which is why I’ve found a great lavender candle recipe you can make at home in preparation for your spa day. I also went ahead and made a relaxing, feel-good playlist to throw on while you self-care: Chill Out February Playlist.

~Pamper Your Skin~

Now that you’ve set the mood, it’s time to dive into the pampering. Exfoliation is such an important step in your skincare routine but can sometimes be overlooked. I found an easy guide to body scrubs that are super easy to make right at home with ingredients you likely already have. The guide gives you ingredient ratios for the scrub and lets you pick which ones to add depending on your skincare needs. One of my personal favorites to make is a coffee ground and coconut oil scrub! Follow up your scrub with a hydrating DIY face mask of your choice – I chose this DIY Avocado Face Mask – to seal in moisture and leave your skin glowing.

*Make sure you consult your dermatologist before using any scrub or face mask*

~Nourish Your Body~

There is arguably nothing more important in the realm of self-care than what you put in your body. Fruits and veggies are a great source of nutrition that are an important part of your diet. One of my favorite ways to get in my daily dose of fruits and veggies is in a smoothie. Here are a couple of recipes for delicious smoothies for you to enjoy on your self-care day and beyond.

~Get Creative~

To me, there’s nothing more relaxing and fulfilling than getting creative and making art. You’d be surprised at how easily you can recreate beautiful paintings to put up around your house or even gift to a friend. You can virtually use any medium you wish – whether it be acrylic paint, watercolor, or markers – and create something amazing. Pour yourself a glass of champagne, throw on some music and let your creative juices flow! Here are a couple of prints I found that are great for beginners, but if those don’t fit with your aesthetic, head to Pinterest and find some that do. These painting ideas were inspired by these two prints: Abstract Sunset in Desert & Abstract Sun. Find your painting supplies at your nearest Michaels or any local art supplies store.
